Callum started his playing at the young age of 7, where he was taught by his uncle until the age of 9, when his uncle retired.
Upon retiring Callum’s uncle sent him to Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia where Callum would further his education with the legendary Tom Brown.
Callum very quickly worked his way up to become the Leading Drummer of the Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia Juvenile band winning the World Championships and Champion of Champions Drumming along the way.
During these early years Callum was also competing in the World Solo Drumming event for his age category, where he narrowly missed out on winning the title taking the runners up position twice.
When Callum became too old for the Juvenile band he moved on to the Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia Grade 2 band where Tom Brown was the Leading Drummer. Tom only continued playing for a couple of seasons and it was at this point Callum was to lead a corps playing in Grade 2 for his first time.
Towards the end of 2003 Boghall and Bathgate Caledonia decided to disband their Grade 2 band. It was at this point Callum and the drum corps moved to Torphichen and Bathgate Pipe Band.
During their first season in 2004 the drum corps won a few local contests with their best Championship result being a 4th at Cowal. This improvement through 2004 to gain the place at Cowal was to continue into 2005 where Callum’s corps lifted the Scottish Championships, and took places in every other championship to lift the coveted Champion of Champions Title in 2005.
2006 saw the drum corps take the World Championship title on August 12th, a day that will live in the memories of the whole drum corps for a long time.
2007 sees Callum’s drum corps grow to 11 side drummers with a bass and tenor section of 5 as they continue to strive for more success and ultimately see Torphichen and Bathgate Pipe Band compete in Grade 1.
