The Curse of Uluru is bursting with 14 tracks which comprise of 40 tunes.  In performing this concert a total of 26 musicians appeared.

01. Reel

  • Pressed For Time - Composed by Gordon Duncan

We open the concert with a tune from Gordon Duncan, building up accompaniment as we progress through this fantastic reel.  We dedicate this set to Gordon’s memory.

02. Hornpipes

  • Fraser The Ticket Man - Composed by Stuart Robertson
  • Ebeneezer Cooper - Composed by Stuart Robertson

Two hornpipes written in the modern style. We start traditionally, then rock out with the second tune.

03. Pipe Sgt Stuart Robertson

  • Pyroclastic Velocity - Composed by Stuart Robertson

A solo from our Pipe Sgt ono the Deger Pipe, accompanied by our very own Torphichenettes.  This tune was written at around 2 am, whilst Stuart watched the Discovery channel on TV. A pyroclastic flow is an expulsion of hot rock and ashes from a volcano, it hurtles down the side of the volcano at 100 mph destroying everything in its path.

04. Reels

  • Bunch of Fives - Composed by Chris Djuritschek
  • Pyrrhic Victory - Composed by Chris Djuritschek
  • Peruvian Moonbeam - Composed by Chris Djuritschek
  • Hell Hath No Fury - Composed by Chris Djuritschek
  • Give Up The Ghost - Composed by Chris Djuritschek

Here we present 5 reels all written by Chris.  Chris, or DJ as we call him has written many tunes for the band, and this set showcases the undeniable talent for writing bagpipe music.  This set was conceived and arranged by Chris himself.

05. Drum Fanfare

  • Drum Fanfare - Arranged by LD Callum Firth

An arrangement of Tom Brown’s famous fanfare.  As a student from the Tom Brown Drumming School, Callum has added his own flavour, and shows why our Drum Corps were crowned Drumming Champion of Champions in the 2005 season.

06. Medley

  • The 10 Minute Man - Composed by Stuart Robertson
  • Ailish & Rebecca “Beanies” Jig - Composed by Stuart Robertson
  • Foxhunter Bridge - Composed by Stuart Robertson
  • The Foxhunters - Trad. Arranged by Stuart Robertson
  • The Call To The Gathering - Composed by Don Bradford
  • Arniston Castle - Trad
  • Susan McLeod - Composed by D McLeod
  • The New Paradigm - Composed by Mark Saul

We finished the first half of our concert with our Number 1 Medley from the 2005 season. A mix of old and new tunes this Medley served us well in 2005.

07. Reel

  • Molotov Cocktail - Composed by Chris Djuritschek
  • Featuring the Young Guns

We kick off the 2nd half of the show in unique style.  Chris and Stuart had been exploring Eastern rhythms and sounds on the pipes for a while and Chris came up with this fantastic tune.  Led by Chris and played by the youngest pipers in the band, backed by our percussion ensemble and our very own group.  Chris has captured a very Eastern feel here.

08. March, Strathspey and Reel

  • Balmoral Highlanders - Trad. Arranged by PM Gordon Stafford
  • Shepherds Crook - Trad.  Arranged by PM Gordon Stafford
  • The Sheepwife - Trad.  Arranged by PM Gordon Stafford

  • The Reverend Brothers Jig - Composed by Stuart Robertson
  • Emancipation - Composed by Mark Saul

We start this set in an unusual manner, Stuart and Chris take us through the 2nd tune which is also known as Conlons Frolics as far as we know, onto our final tune.  A fantastic piece of music from one of Australia’s best known composers.

10. Medley

  • Fraser Allison’s Jig -Composed by Don Bradford
  • Biddy From Siigo - Composed by Stuart Robertson

Our Number 2 Medley from the 2005 Season.

11. Hornpipes

  • Drum Sgt. Callum Firth - Composed by Stuart Robertson
  • Natural Born Chillers - Composed by Chris Djuritschek

Two Hornpipes. The first was written as a present for Callum's birthday, at the the request of Callum’s wife Julie. Stuart maintains this means the present is from him and not from Julie!  The second is another example of Chris’s work, we love the melodic flow to this tune, and love playing it.

12. Suite

  • The Curse of Uluru - Composed by Stuart Robertson & Chris Djuritschek

The highlight, and theme to our concert is this wonderful composition from Stuart and Chris.

The initial idea was born from Stuart’s obsession with the discovery channel!  And another documentary, this time the Australian outback and Uluru.  Having written the air and slow reel, he presented it to Chris, who expanded on the theme with a fantastic jig in 12/8 time. A jazz waltz followed from Stuart, and Chris insisted the piece finish with a simple but astounding Reel with harmony and counterpoint.

13. Marchpipes

  • The Magic 2/4 - Composed by Chris Djuritschek
  • The Caledonian Piping Club - Composed by Stuart Robertson

We offer 2 hornpipes, or are they Marches? Written in the traditional fashion.  This set is for the old guard, and proves that modern day composers can still offer great tunes in the traditional sense.

14 Reel

  • Organised Chaos - Composed by Chris Djuritschek

We finish with a cracking tune from Chris, and the opening tune to our 2006 Medley.  This title is a perfect reflection on the weeks leading up to the concert, and we go all out to finish this journey with a bang.
